The only viable solution is to ensure that your fuel consumption is effective and that you fully utilize every tank of gas.
You can make certain that you are maximizing your gas dollars by beginning with a vehicle that is in proper working order. Some of the most important areas to look for signs of wear and tear include the brakes, Emission Control, Heating and Cooling systems, Steering and Suspension, Electrical systems, and Ignition.
Additionally, make sure that your vehicle’s oil is clean. Dirty oil causes added wear on your vehicle’s engine, in turn causing you to waste fuel. Also, double check thermostats and make sure they are in proper working order. Air filters must be clean at all times. Dirty air filters create what is known as a “rich mixture” that uses additional amounts of gas. Double check spark plugs to ensure that they aren’t worn or wearing thin. A dirty or worn spark plug causes misfiring, and misfiring wastes fuel. Keep spark plugs clean and in great working order. Also, make sure that your tires are full. Properly inflating your tires will give you better gas mileage. Wheel alignment is also important for saving fuel. When wheels are misaligned, they cause an increase in rolling resistance that wastes your fuel.
